The donation of Lester Lorch Park to Dallas County in 1976 created a local movement to preserve open space. Dallas County voters approved a $2 million bond in 1977 to acquire parkland and the 1980 Open Space Plan formally established the Dallas County Parks and Open Space Program. We now celebrate more than 40 years of wildlife and habitat conservation while creating a welcoming environment that invites visitors to enjoy the beauty of Dallas County.
