- What is the focus of the DCPOS volunteer program?
- It is our goal to actively promote a beneficial relationship between volunteers and staff that results in staff, volunteers and volunteer organizations working cooperatively to foster the stewardship of Dallas County’s preserves.
- The Dallas County Parks and Open Space volunteer program provides an avenue for Dallas County community members to contribute their skills and time to a variety of needs and projects throughout the program.
- What kinds of volunteer projects will we be doing?
- Volunteers will assist in projects that range anywhere from litter clean-ups, habitat restoration, trail maintenance and outreach (community events).
- Is a background check required to volunteer?
- No, a background check is not required to volunteer. Refer to the volunteer handbook to view our volunteer eligibility requirements. Email any questions or concerns to Parks.OpenSpace@dallascounty.org.
- What is the youngest age that anyone can volunteer with the program?
- Minors between the ages of 13-17 can volunteer with an adult present.
- Can I bring my group to volunteer?
- Yes, for inquiries on group events please email Parks.OpenSpace@dallascounty.org to coordinate your volunteer event.
- What should I bring with me when I volunteer?
- Volunteers need to be prepared for the elements. We will be working outside and can potentially be exposed to various weather patterns, working in the outdoors and handling projects that involve being dirty.
- Closed-toed shoes (volunteers will not be allowed to participate without these)
- Long sleeves and pants
- Hat
- Sunblock and bug spray
- Water
- Snacks
- Gloves (Dallas County will provide, unless you want to bring your own)
