Who We Are
The Dallas County Parks and Open Space Program was established in 1971 with the donation of Lester Lorch Park in Cedar Hill. The goal at the time was to focus on acquiring undeveloped land to be set aside for conservation.
Our first Open Space plan was developed in 1981, leading to the creation of 21 preserves with over 4,000 acres of green space for the people of Dallas County. These preserves provide natural habitat for wildlife and recreational opportunities for people in the 9th largest county in the nation.
What We Do
The Dallas County Parks and Open Space Program focuses on the conservation of green space within Dallas County, while simultaneously providing outdoor recreation opportunities and connecting people to nature within those spaces.
The Parks and Open Space Program has recently developed a volunteer program to support the management and stewardship of our 21 preserves found within Dallas County. Volunteers will assist with projects that focus on beautification, habitat restoration, trail maintenance and community outreach events. The trail crew will specifically be responsible for trail maintenance and creation at the preserves.
